ZERA locates research and development at the centre of energy regulation. The sector is buoyed by emerging developments and responds to industrial and consumer technologies and needs. The sector is evolving thus necessitates investment in research and development.

The Authority work with various research oriented partners on various energy related research and development initiatives. The partners include Research Council of Zimbabwe, Tobacco Research Board, Scientific Industrial Research and Development Centre (SIRDC), universities and others.

To date, the Authority is managing the following projects which are at different stages of completion:

  • Mobile Jatropha Multi-purpose and Electricity Generating Plant
  • Design of a Tobacco Curing System Using Solar Energy and a Bio-mass Heat Exchanger Unit
  • SAZ PV Testing Laboratory (PV array simulator, integrating sphere system, battery testing unit, pyranometer, oscilloscope)
  • Assessment of Hydro-kinetic potential of Zimbabwean Rivers
